THE GREENBRIER | WEST VIRGINIA by Christine Burkett
Situated on over 11,000 acres in the Allegheny Mountains of West Virginia, The Greenbrier is a luxury
resort that has been welcoming guests since 1778. There are 710 rooms in this historic landmark, with
most of them in the main hotel and the rest in cottages spread across the property. The interiors of The
Greenbrier were designed by famed decorator, Dorothy Draper, and her sumptuous and colorful décor
is like a breath of fresh mountain air.
People originally started coming to The Greenbrier for health reasons – to “take the water” of the sulphur springs in the region. The Greenbrier still offers therapeutic water treatments in its lavish spa, but that is just one of its many attractions. It is a mecca for golfers, with 5 different courses to choose from (including the legendary Old White Course). In fact, there are 55 different activities offered at The Greenbrier, many of which are not found elsewhere, such as off-road adventures, falconry, or the “Bunker” tour. For those who prefer indoor pleasures, The Greenbrier offers 36 different boutiques on- site along with 20 restaurant/lounge options. It even has its own private casino for guests to enjoy. There truly is something for everyone at The Greenbrier, which makes it the perfect destination for anyone who wants their vacation to be an amazing combination of luxury, gorgeous scenery, and southern comfort.
